Character descriptions (actors)

Image
For the new film I needed reliable actors that had flexible schedules to accommodate for the current situation, a few of my neighbors, and close friends, have agreed to help and take part in this, for a change I will also be playing an important role as to portray the main antagonist. main character Michael, played by Alejandro moya, cypress bay senior, and childhood friend, I chose him because of his innocent persona, my friend Alejandro has a very childish and kind personality, which will be useful for Michael's lines, since his kindness, and innocence will be taken advantage of in the film. Emile, will be played by me, Emille is the main antagonist I personally though myself good for this role because of my serious attitude, usually I sit back in silence, and observe, this will be key for Emile's character, as he is the gang leader in charge of trying to initiate Michael, and will need to represent a level of intimidation, and curiosity that I'm sure I c

Filming locations, setting

Because of the recent quarantine, all of the previous locations for filming will not be used. i will be using secluded areas within the neighborhood in which I reside in, such as blocked off parks, (no trespassing obviously), scenes on the neighborhood roads, and most importantly, at night with some lowkey lighting to emphasize withs in front of the camera, while also shedding some light on the setting of each scene, almost every scene will be shot at night ( crime is most active in the dark), and i will be helped by my community security to inform the neighbors of the filming,  because some controversial scenes may bring unwanted attention.

Genre posting (new)

Image
Because of recent events,   there is a global pandemic, has drastically changed the direction of this project, I decided to change the American drama film opening into a crime/ gangster film opening, reasons for which will be described in the following posts. Crime and gangster films have specific components that will allow me to deliver quality content throughout  this crisis, that and I have viewed many films around this genre so that will aid in formulating settings, props, and scenes. The crime/ gangster genre is a very popular Movie genre with multiple Oscar winners, and nominees, such as Mario puzo's The God Father, Goodfellas, by Martin Scorses, and  American gangster by Steven Zaillian. All of these films have components that can be used for small and tight filming locations. Lowkey lighting, scenes in allyways, and secluded clothing often used in scenes that directly represent an ongoing crime, or secret action

casting issues, update

Upon formulating the cast of my film opening, I had some starting issues due to conflicts with filming, and availability, however now because of a pandemic, I had to recast for my character role of drew, before he was going to be played by a sophomore luke Jakobs, however because of his age, his guardians are not allowing him to leave the house due to the outbreak, I scoured my friend groups for someone who could fit Drew's description correctly, and would take the role seriously. I am not sure if i mentioned it in my previous postings, however my actors will be paid, not was a favor but as a personal incentive for the roles to be taken more seriously, Drew will now be played by a senior, Jason donofrio

lighting techniques

Image
lighting is extremely important in film production, lighting often conveys mood. For example, one of the film genres most known for its distinct lighting style is film noir, characterized by stark contrasts between light and dark, dramatically patterned shadows, and unique framing and composition choices. Since my chosen genre is based on a drama I will use lowkey lighting to demonstrate the reality of events, and give the audience more focus on what's in front of them, rather than the surroundings movies with such lighting would be Menace to society for example, an american drama film. https://www.masterclass.com/articles/film-101-understanding-film-lighting#why-lighting-is-important https://prezi.com/78sxrmdozwh-/conventions-of-the-comedy-drama-genre/

Filming dates

Because of recent problems with the covid-19 outbreak, I personally had to rearrange and contact some of my friends to see what dates they could be available for filming,  filming locations have remained, however, if the government happens to establish curfew, some afternoon shots will have to be filmed in the morning, new filming dates have been established 03/27, 04/01, 04/03. 04/05, and 04/06. These are so far the best dates that me, and my "filming crew" will be available.

Target audience

why a target audience? Identifying a target market/ audience often helps your company/product develop effective marketing communication strategies. A target audience is a set of individuals sharing similar needs or characteristics that your product hopes to sympathize to. These people are usually the users, that are most likely to purchase your product. for my film opening my target audience would primarily consist of adolescent adults ranging from 16- 25, and also those who have previously endured harsh prejudice, or racial discrimination. Like most minority films mine will highlight a social problem, films like Boyz N The hood, the film portrayed the struggle and hardships that African Americans endured while growing up in the 80's, while my film will revolve around the social divide in how law enforcement treats minority groups in our modern-day society. https://www.jetmag.com/entertainment/boyz-n-the-hood-anniversary/

Setting (filming location)

Image
In My previous setting posting, I established some suggested filming locations for the film opening that would tie with the plot of the film opening, yesterday march, 7th I drove around south Florida to spot some good locations, the established places that I chose for filming go greatly with the theme of the overall trailer, which is supposed to emphasize on poverty, struggle, personal bonds, and conflict. Driving down pine island ridge I was able to locate a neighborhood trailer park, that in my perspective fits perfectly, 13281 SW 9th St, Davie, FL 33325

Costume design update

Image
For week three I briefly discussed the costume/ clothing themes that will fit in with the film opening, since I chose to base this story around a ghetto neighborhood, and society I observed in the clothing that is mostly used in these areas, for the opening i have purchased, cut off jeans, alongside with 2 sets of white, and black tank tops, (the color choice will vary on the lighting), I dirtied up some of the attire to coincide with the setting and the character traits of my actors, for example since trey is a track athlete, I will make him wear worn down running shoes.

music update

Image
On my previous posting regarding the choice of music and, sound effects, the music for the opening will revolve around rap, and rap that mostly revolts against society, and pushes for change however, due to legal complications my original music of choice is unavailable for my project, so I looked to my peers for help, I was able to reconnect with an old friend, and take a look at his music, the tracks below, were recorded, produced, and distributed by him, he owns copyright to these songs. https://soundcloud.com/mellimontana/melli-montana-clout-offset-ft-cardi-b-remix https://soundcloud.com/mellimontana/yung-melli-fair-play-sharpie-contest-test https://soundcloud.com/mellimontana/melli-montana-brand-new Above is proof of permission, I direct messaged him on the social media site Instagram.

Roles, actor casting update

Image
Roles, actor casting so far for my main characters, the following will be playing the characters below Trey will be played by Armand bourjolley, currently enrolled in cypress bay high school, at 17 years of age, dark skin complexion, and the personality of a panda Armand perfectly portrays Trey in how the audience should view him. Cesar Was going to be played by a fellow coworker, Jonathan, however, due to complications with filming it was beneficial to recast, so Cesar will be played by another associate: Adan Khalifa, Adan correctly fits the description of Cesar, fortunately I lucked out with this change and we will have no filming complications. And the role of drew will be played by a fellow student of western High, Luke jakob, Luke fits the character description of drew, caucasian skin tone, lower stature, and kind of wimpy which hopefully will correctly portray the chemistry that is between drew, and his best friends cesar, and trey.

And drew will be played by none other than drew liebman. .
Genre posting, film opening plot For my film opening, the very plot that surrounds the trailer consists of the main character trey, and his best friends Ceasar, and drew. Trey is a young african american senior in highschool, who lives in the deep city of south Miami Dade county, he along with his two friends have to experience the troubles of highschool, and their  teenage lives, along with harsh racial prejuduice, and social discrimination, by questionable authority figures, and the society that surrounds them.  The film would open with Trey, walking to school along with Caesar, and drew, upon crossing a small gated neighborhood, Trey notices an elderly caucasian woman drop her items, he begins to walk over to her when Caesar stops him, and condemn him, reassuring that it would be better for them to mind their business, and go on their way, Trey brushes off his comment, and proceeds to ask the lady for assistance, upon his arrival the lady brushes to the side

props

Image
Props currently props appropriate for the film opening consist of items that are very common in the streets, obviously with a heavy filter on the real drug use that occurs every day in the ghettos, however minor topics such as alcohol consumption, cigarette intake, and firearms use in the hood. props like

Music/sound techniques For my film opening the area in which the boys reside in heavily influences, sound techniques, and the chosen soundtracks for the preferred music I have chosen songs in the rap genre, the rap genre is a very controversial music genre due to the messages that are relayed by most tracks, however in the come up of the late 80's, up to the late 90's rap culture evolved to call out societal flaws, and conflicts. groups like N.W.A which produced hit songs like Fuck the police, artists such as Tupac, biggie smalls, ice cube, and eazy E. so I've made it my personal mission to badger artists for copyright permissions of the songs below Blood- Kendrick lamar. Costumes are one of many tools a film producer has to tell the story. Costumes communicate the details of a character's personality to the audience and help actors transform into new and believable people on screen. For my film opening, the characters were given specific clothing, and costume design to appropriately portray not only my characters but the environment in which they were raised in. For the adolescents, I chose basic street attire, no classy or formal clothing to try, and emphasize to the audience of their socioeconomic status. For example in the movie Menace to society,  18-year-old Caine Lawson including his unpredicta ble friend O-Dog are always shown in the street attire consisting of jeans, tank tops, etc. So far the actors will be wearing clothing attire such as the ones found below.
